Credit card fraud surge in West Norwood

According to a recent report there has been a surge in credit card fraud in the West Norwood area, and police officials are now investigating the matter to see if they can get to the bottom of this sudden increase in credit card fraud levels.
Specialist officers have been assigned to look into the matter after dozens of residents from the area found themselves becoming the victims of credit card fraud within the space of a week, indicating that fraudsters may be using specialist equipment to commit a string of crimes.
There are now fears that somehow fraudsters are managing to copy consumers’ credit cards in the area. Assigned police officials will be looking to see whether specialist equipment has been used, such as the type that can be installed in cash machines in order to copy the details of credit cards used in the machines. Card readers in shops and supermarkets will also be checked to see if there is anything amiss there.
A number of residents believe that it is a card reader that is responsible for copying the card details, as they have stated that they have not used any cash machines in the area yet have still become the victims of credit card fraud. Over the past week residents have seen thousands of pounds disappear from their accounts, and cash has also been taken from machines using cloned cards.
Police officers have said that residents in the area need to be extra vigilant, stating: “If you believe you have been a victim of this type of crime then we ask you to thoroughly check your bank statement.”
